“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be ONE, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.”
To bring about good for the Kingdom of God during the anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. To use the event to show the world that Montgomery and the entire State of Alabama has made great progress in racial reconciliation. Our goal is to magnify the fact that there has been genuine repentance of past sins of prejudice and we are intentionally seeking to destroy barriers and build bridges of racial reconciliation, peace and oneness motivated by the transforming love of Jesus Christ.
As a tangible symbol of racial reconciliation, we will seek to place more than 100,000 crosses in citizens’ yards. The cross represents God’s hammer for destroying barriers and God’s bridge for uniting all people.
“But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one, and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall by abolishing in His flesh the enmity…and reconciling them both in one body to God through the cross.” Ephesians 2:13-16
A. The crosses will be made in mass production by volunteers and they will be funded and distributed by the churches.
B. A decal logo will be designed and attached to the cross. A proposed design will be done by graphic artist Jonathan Hoomes.
Another way to identify advocates of racial reconciliation would be through the creation of a
“ONE” bracelet that would be similar to the yellow “live strong” arm bands.
A. Static cling logos for home and automobile windows.
B. Billboards
C. Newspapers
D. T-shirts
E. Free advertising
F. A publicity campaign to explain the message of the crosses
Instructions for Constructing Crosses of Reconciliation
6 feet of 1 inch x 4 inch lumber ¼” x 2” bolt with wing nut Logo decal
Cut two feet off of the 6-feet board, with 4 feet remaining. The 4-feet piece will become your upright portion and the 2-feet portion will become the crosspiece. On the 4 feet section cut a 45-degree point on the base to be placed into the ground. From the top of the 4-feet piece, come down one foot and in the center of the board, drill a 5/16” hole for the bolt. In the center of the 2 feet piece (one foot from each end) drill the 5/16” hole. It is most helpful if you can recess the head on the bolt. This helps with the logo decal laying flat.
Paint the 4 foot board black. Paint the 2 foot board white.
Gently pound the 4-foot section into the ground then attach the cross piece with the bolt and wing nut. Attach the logo decal to the cross.
1. Place the cross in front of your house or business no later than November 20, 2005.
2. Placing the logo decal
a. When you place your cross, attach the logo decal to the center of the intersection of the two boards.
3. Pray for the message of the cross to be presented as a witness to you neighbors and into your community each day that it is in front or your house.
